As an experienced farm animal veterinary practitioner with expertise and postgraduate training in reproductive management, I am passionate about delivering an innovative reproductive management service to clients. I provide accurate, affordable and flexible ultrasound scanning for livestock farmers with the aim of optimising herd level fertility and farm efficiency. Fertility is a major cause of culling in livestock, and prompt and accurate diagnosis of pregnancy and/or pathologies allow earlier treatment interventions and appropriate management decisions.

Services

  • Pregnancy diagnosis from >30 days
  • Cyclicity and uterine health assessment
  • Pelvic scoring heifers and pre-breeding assessment
  • Fertility, housing, and general health consultancy
  • Dairy Mastitis Control Plan Deliverer (get in touch for pricing)
  • Future goal to add Bull semen testing
  • Sheep pregnancy scanning (yes/no ONLY), 70+ days in lamb

Why have your stock scanned?

  • Preparation for success and safety → nutrition, housing, inspection frequency, readiness and hygiene of equipment and facilities
  • Efficiency → culling decisions with fewer lost inputs, earlier intervention for fertility treatments/enhancements where indicated, and earlier detection of a sub/infertile bull!
  • Knowledge sharing → opportunity to ask questions about the cows/sheep/farm, social interaction is beneficial for overall well-being
  • Further opportunities → normalise cattle movements and handling, highlight any safety gaps in facilities, train younger animals in entering the race/crush, opportunity to tie in other services ie vaccinate, TB test, parasite control, mobility score, pelvic score, body condition score……, Identify other problems such as lameness

Ideally scanning is performed more than once in the breeding period. This is to ensure that the bull is working adequately, and allow for interventions if too many cows are empty! For the final scan, ideally time it such that the bull has been taken out for >30 days for the most accurate results.
